In the 4th grade Miss Palet made me the drummer of "Albert and the Exterminators" and in the 6th grade I was voted King of the school...Then a bunch of horrible stuff occurred that had been building up. After my mom died I had to live in precarious situations. At 16 I was living with some guys 8 years older then me in their laundry room and wrote songs like crazy on a guitar I bought painting houses and washing dishes...One night a week there was a place you could play 3 songs and Tom Waits was the door man and ran the thing. He was gruff with people but nice to me for some reason, maybe pity but he could play and sing. I would show up early to be around him and he would let me. They had an old record player in the back and one night Tom Waits said I should hear this and played me the album "Young Brigham" by Ramblin' Jack Elliott.
